Postdoctoral Fellow
Susanne Schmid is a Postdoctoral Fellow at AI2Lab, working with interpretability and reliability of deep learning models in medical imaging. She holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Physics from the LMU in Munich, Germany, and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering with specialization in medical imaging from the University of Calgary. Her research background combines machine learning with strong domain knowledge in CT and MRI, allowing her to develop approaches that are better aligned with medical imaging data and clinical context. During her PhD, she developed machine learning models for MR brain imaging applications related to vascular brain health with a focus on cerebral small vessel disease, multimodal MRI, label uncertainty, and model interpretability. Susanne is interested in developing trustworthy AI methods that incorporate uncertainty, label variability, and the clinical context of medical imaging data.
